Minutes of the Meeting held in Athens on 4/12/97

In Athens, on the 4th of December with the initiative of Global NEST a meeting was held between :

Prof. Th. Lekkas, Acting Chairman of the Executive Committee of Global NEST, Dionysis Assimacopoulos, K. Hadjibiros (Acting Vice Chairmen of Global NEST)

and 

Mr. E. Efthymiopoulos, Mr. Modinos from International Institute for Environmental Research, (NTUA).

In this meeting was decided to co-operate in order to organize a two days meeting on "Olympics, the City and the Environment", which will take place in Athens, on the 22nd and 23rd of January 1998.

Environmental experts have been invited from the cities where Olympic Games were organized. 

Experts from Barcelona, Sydney, Munich, Lillehammer and the International Olympic Committee are invited and will take part in this event.

Representatives from the Greek Organizing Committee will also participate and contribute to the debate for the environmentally friendly Olympic Games.

Members of the Global NEST are encouraged to participate in this event.

 

THE GLOBAL NETWORK FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY 

in co-operation with the 

INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH, 

a group of professors of the TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF ATHENS

and the daily newspaper ELEFTEROTYPIA

 

are organizing

a two days meeting on ‘Olympics, the City and the Environment’

(The meeting will take place in Athens and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment)

3.- Speech of the Energy Commissioner of the EU

4.- Speech of Mr. Olav Myrholt, Advisor of the IOC

5.- Presentations of proposals and alternative proposals for the ‘Olympic Village’

 

Evening session (16:00 - 20:00)

1.- Presentations of proposals and alternative proposals for the ‘Athletic Centre of Faliron’ in the sea front 

2.- Presentation of the revised scheme for the ‘Rowing Centre’ in the biotope of Schinias.

3.- Presentation of the official study for the ‘air pollution in Athens’ in 2004.

4.- Traffic in Athens by 2004.

5.- Alternative proposal for the management of the estuary of Ilissos (Faliron Athletic Complex)
